5. GoDaddy is Charging for Spam Complaints - Ouch! GoDaddy is Charging for Spam Complaints - Ouch!
Seems like the folks over at GoDaddy are charging their email marketing customers if they get spam complaints. Deliverability.com broke the news when they got an email with this information sent to them from a GoDaddy customer. GoDaddy will now charge customers $200 to "manage" their complaints. Even worse is that if the customer wants to then leave them and transfer their domains to another registrar they can't do it until they pay GoDaddy $75!
To cover all of their bases, it appears that if one of their customers uses an Email Service Provider outside of GoDaddy to advertise their GoDaddy-hosted site and they get complaints from one of their customer's recipients, they could be hit with a fine or other action.
Wow. Serious Email Service Providers (ESPs) usually do this as a service to customers and won't allow spammers to use their services. But let's face it, everyone gets a complaint now and then, even customers with best intentions. The difference is that serious ESPs want to help their customers learn best practices about email marketing and not turn complaints into a new revenue stream.
If you use GoDaddy to host your website be careful. And any time you're looking for a serious ESP, make sure you ask if they have a deliverability and abuse department - most serious ESPs do, looks like GoDaddy might not.
GoDaddy should stick to what they're good at, being a registrar. Leave the email marketing heavy-lifting to those who "want" to do it and help businesses grow.

Greg Wilson 14. Have several streams of income Hello again. I will show you several of the businesses that I am involved with. I believe that it is much better and safer to earn $500 a month for 10 different businesses that it is to earn $5,000 from one. That is a lesson I learned long ago when I was in the Insurance Business. I saw several agents always chasing the big accounts. If the managed to get one, the would be OK for awhile. But what always happen was someone else would take that business away form them. So imagine if that was 50% of your income and you were counting on it every month. WOW what a loss from just losing one account. What I did was have many little accounts. That way if I lost one it wasn't a big blow to my income and it was easier to replace.
The same thing happens in Networking. If you put all your efforts into one company, (and I re-learned that lesson myself), you really feel the pressure when the big gun on your team decides to slow down or change companies. No more, not for me.
So now comes the internet. Remember wee talked about marketing on the internet World Wide. Well you need a service or a product that is available world wide. I will show you what I am using.
I still have one or two businesses that I market that are only available in the U S and Canada right now, but that is OK too.

Greg Wilson 15. How to find leads for your HOme Business You should try to find a home business that you have some interest in. It could be in the Health Industry, Travel Industry, a Product or Service. Don't just jump into a business. Take time to check out the pay plan, the company, the products and or services.
One important thing to consider is a business plan of action. How are you going to find new like minded people to share your business with. Leads. Yes we are talking about Leads. Are you going to market locally, on-line, by mail or some other method. Today I want to talk about on-line marketing.
To market on line you can buy leads and an auto responder and create an email program. The problem with that is that everyone has spam filters and the leads the you buy are expensive and everyone else is business the same leads. So how about a system to generate leads for free. 16. What makes a good home business. Well, how did you do with your Schedule C? Are you starting to get the idea of how much more of Your MONEY you can keep?
Now let's start to look at what makes a good Home Business. Remember the IRS says that you must operate the business with the INTENT to make a profit. That means keeping records. There are a lot of ways to keep records. I like the system that Sandy Botkin provides. Click here to check it out.
OK, so what makes a good home business? First, for me is working from home. Unfortunately, most of what we have been exposed to are Network Marketing Businesses that require to get all your family and friends INTO something. And if your like me you are a life member in the NFL (No Friends Left). Meaning that when you call someone that you know, the first thing that runs through their head is "what are you into now".
Network Marketing actually works. The hard thing for most of us is in finding a a fresh and continuous source of new people to share our opportunity with. I don't know about you, but there is NO WAY I am going to the Mall and attack people anymore!!
OMG, how about using the Internet? We will cover that in future posts, but for now, lets continue to explore what makes a good home business.
- Work from home
- Reasonable investment
- Affordable overhead (monthly)
- Good Payout
- Good product or service
- Consumable (need more every month)

Greg Wilson 17. Schedule C workout. I hope you all had a Happy Easter Holiday.
We last talked about checking out the Schedule C in your IRS 1040 booklet.
Here is your next challenge. Read it, and take a pencil and see what deductions you can come up with. Even if you have already filed your taxes, take this challenge. If you don't already have a Home Business, you will see the value of having one.
Remember all the things that you can deduct. Things like cell phones, internet services, printer paper, ink cartridges, basically any thing that you would use to run your business. See what you come up with.

Are you starting to get the idea of all the deductions you are entitled to when you have a home business. I would invite you to go get your 1040 booklet that the IRS sent out and find Schedule C. Look at it read it. There is a whole section devoted to all the deductions you are allowed to take. That can be your best friend.
I will be talking about other deductions in other posts, but for now, read Schedule C and see what you have been missing.
Would you believe that I have seen people quit a home business because they thought $50 a month was too much to pay to keep the business. With out the home business they lose all the deductions. That is insane. I would pay $1,000 a month just to get all the allowed deductions.

I hope you are starting to see the advantages of owning your own home business.
Speaking of home, did you know that the IRS allows deductions for using part of your home in the pursuit for profit for your home business. Again, don't forget to check with your tax professional.
This deduction allows you to take the percentage of your home that you use for your business, storage, office space, etc. Let's say that you use 10%. That means that you can deduct 10% of everything that you normally spend on your home. Mortgage, insurance, heat, light and there are others. If you spend $2,000 a month that is a $200 deduction, or at a 30% income tax bracket, another $60 a month in your pocket.

We are approaching the dreaded April 15th. Have you maximized your Schedule C. If you have, that is fantastic. If not pay attention.
First let me say that I am not a tax expert. Always check with a Tax Professional. I am just giving you some deductions that I have learned about.
Last time we talked about hiring your children and getting a tax deduction. First you need to learn the rules. Discuss this with your Tax Pro. Assume that you have 2 children and you pay them each $5,000 a year to work in your home business. That is $10,000 that you can deduct from your W-2 wages on Schedule C. Assume that you have $50,000 of income on your W-2. That means that your taxable income is only $40,000. $50,000 minus $10,000 = $40,000. Assume that you are in a 30% tax bracket. That means that you will actually save $3,000 in taxes that you would of had to give the IRS. That is an extra $250 a month. Just because you have a Home Business and are working it with an intent to make a profit.
Now, I hear you saying that you can't afford to pay your child and extra $5,000 a month. If you understand the rules it is easy. Add up all the money you spend on your children now. School clothes, lunch money, allowances, little league, dance classes, karate classes, and so on. Get the picture. Here is how it works. You hire you children (check the rules) teach them a good work ethic, have them earn the money. Now you open a custodial account at your bank. You pay your children, deposit their wages in that account, minus a little for them to spend. That money is tax deductible to your business and as long as you stay with in the guide lines it is not taxable to them. They can save for their college, take mom and dad to Disney World or what ever, it is their money with you as the custodian.
Remember check with a Professional Tax Advisor. I suggest looking for a Tax Attorney.

Greg Wilson 21. Why You Need a Home Business Taxes keep going up and up. The government takes more and more. But here in the United States we can take advantage of the many tax deductions that are allowed. If we will learn the rules. The IRS allows us to deduct many items and most people are not aware of them.
In this blog, I will attempt to give you some ideas that you can take to your tax . Your tax advisor should be up to speed on the tax advantages for home businesses. If he isn't find another one. One book that I highly suggest that you read is "Lower Your Taxes - Big Time" by Sandy Botkin. Sandy explains many of the deductions that are available to home business owners.
Here is one that can save you Big Time on your taxes. For the 2007 tax your if you had a home business you could hire your children between the ages of 7 and 18 and pay them up to $5,350 each and it would be tax deductible to you and your children would not have to pay income tax on that amount. You may say, "I can't afford to pay my child that kind of money" Next time I will explain how that works. I am willing to bet that you are already paying your child more than that right now.
